A productivity tool for companies who treat wildland fuels

About the Fuels Portal

With resource orders becoming more unpredictable every season, and with cooperators receiving preferential dispatch over contractors, we all are becoming more dependent on our off-season work in order to stay in business. But outside of the primary fire season, it is sometimes difficult to gather all of the necessary resources and personnel to complete our projects safely and efficiently. Contractors as a group have a larger workforce and resource base than any fire agency, and could get a significant amount of fuels management work done with just a little coordination and cooperation.

We’ve all been in a position to either try to get projects done with limited resources, or be forced to postpone them entirely. Let’s face it, if it’s a good day to complete your project, it’s a good day for everyone else in your area to complete theirs, so resources can become scarce very quickly. However, resources in nearby states or regions may be idle, awaiting better conditions to complete their projects. All that is lacking is an efficient way to communicate needs and availability in order to leverage this enormous combined workforce and resource base for the benefit of all of us.

That’s why I put together The Fuels Portal. It allows companies to create profiles to advertise their services and resources, and also allows companies to post their projects and needs. Companies looking for assistance in getting their projects done can search the other company profiles to see who may have resources available to help. Companies with idle resources can search the posted projects and contact those companies to offer their assistance.

This is not a contractor association. There are no “members”, no board, no bylaws, no shared set of values, etc. This is just a networking tool so independent companies needing assistance to finish projects can find additional resources, and vice versa. It is totally free and you are in complete control.
