This is a fire spread animation depicting a wide flaming front 1 mile from the edge of town. These animations may be paired with static maps to show predicted fire behavior as the flaming front passes. These make excellent educational tools for use in school programs, public meetings, and visits with homeowners. Pre- and post-treatment animations can depict the expected fire behavior before a single mitigation dollar has been spent. It can also be used to garner support for fuels treatment projects. Check out the real-world example of an animation done to depict the extreme spread of the 2024 Smokehouse Creek Fire in the northeastern Texas Panhandle.
